Today, I am going to dive into the first considerations, like the idea and concept for starting my own website. Initially, I got fed up not playing the titles I wanted to, and then I got curious how it was done behind the scenes, such as layout, planning, communication with companies as well as delegating tasks.
When you start something up, you gotta have an idea that will catch peoples interest. I could have started a regular gamingsite, or I could have given up if the domain was taken.
Basically, I was getting tired of not getting the titles for review that I truly wanted, and suddenly it occurred to me that a site about gaming, only written by girls could be an eyecatcher. I checked the first domain that crossed my main that would fit – and it was free. Seconds later it were bought, and I had to make decisions.
What should be on the website besides reviews? Okay there were the obvious such as release lists and impressions. I went for boosting tutorials, blogs and funny stories for personification.
A few days of work, and the design was finished. I needed to get the word out there, and I wasn’t planning on using money on ads. Social networks works wonders here, and soon I was on twitter, trying it out.
Some time went by with posting, and trying to find the right contacts. Months went by and I was getting a few contacts via twitter. I was getting tips and tricks – including an address for a website that were releasing news and and dates of game releases that I still use today – heavily.
After around 6 months of time, I’ve managed to get hold of the right people. With that, I was able to get almost every title home that I wanted. Now I realised I needed writers, as the site had to be updated on a regular basis in order to make visits – and in order to review the games that I got on my hands.
Next time; Presentation is important!
