Last week I attended a launch event for the new game, called Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. The launch itself was more mellow than the invitation e-mail was leading on, but nonetheless, it was an experience I wouldn’t have been without.
Then the developers presented the game and told a bit about their ideas behind the game and how they ended up with some of the decisions.
They visited Shanghai with a handheld camera, filming the city and the underground world – they were even walking around with a cameraman behind them, like a 3rd person view in a game would be – and running too! But it got too blurry, when running in full speed, it was impossible to see anything. They got this effect in the game, which make it very authentic. But who does not turn off movement blur these days?
They were inspired a bit by youtube, so when the game loads a level, it shows up the buffer animation from youtube – and they grainy effect from non-pro cameras as well. The game has a certain feel when you watch the gameplay videoes, and has plenty of bloody gore and violation in the game, so players that like those things will be satisfied by this game.
Though, I am really not a fan of shooters, I’m intrigued by the game, and I will play it at some point. Right now I have too many games to play, so starting on that game would be nuts.
Anyway, it was a great few hours, and I loved the feeling to be a part of the press. I am getting something back in return for my hard work on this site!
